Anthony Scaramucci, the former White House communications director, set off a heated debate on X earlier this week by defending Elon Musk and criticizing those who ignored the red flags during Donald Trump’s first term.

“Elon Musk too smart for these people,” Scaramucci posted. “Again if 40 of us went through the same nonsense in Trump one why did so many people not take the warnings seriously?”

The post opened the floodgates. Users quickly jumped in with a mix of agreement, sarcasm, and sharp criticism—of Musk, of Trump, and of Scaramucci himself.

Backlash and Mixed Reactions Online

One user responded, “Elon got addicted to the MAGA attention/adulation. Simple as that.”

Others said Musk was driven by ego, greed, and a thirst for influence. Several commenters dismissed the idea that Musk is particularly smart at all, suggesting instead that he was just rich and reckless.

One comment read: “He’s not smart, he’s just rich. Why do you fall for the same thing all the time?”

Another accused Musk of trying to “buy a president” and called his recent political maneuvers “a game.”

Critics also took aim at Scaramucci’s own track record. “Why did you believe in him in the first place?” one user asked, referring to Trump’s rise.

“You believed in him enough to stand up in front of the world and support him—why?”

Musk vs. Navarro Heats Up

Meanwhile, Musk himself has been busy throwing fuel on the fire. In recent days, he’s launched personal attacks against Trump’s top trade adviser, Peter Navarro, calling him “a moron,” “dangerously dumb,” and “dumber than a sack of bricks.”

The feud erupted after Navarro said Tesla is more of a “car assembler” than a manufacturer because it relies heavily on international parts. Musk fired back, sarcastically apologizing to bricks on X: “That was so unfair to bricks.”

Musk also mocked Navarro’s Harvard economics degree, saying, “A PhD in econ from Harvard is a bad thing, not a good thing.”

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt tried to brush off the clash. “Boys will be boys, and we will let their public sparring continue,” she said.

Tariffs, Tesla, and Political Friction

The tension comes as Tesla stock continues to nosedive, dropping 22% in the past four trading days and 45% year-to-date. Musk, who lost an estimated $31 billion since Trump’s tariff announcement on April 2, has been vocal in his opposition to the sweeping trade policy.

He advocated for a zero-tariff agreement between the U.S. and Europe and criticized Navarro for promoting policies that harm the economy.

Speaking at an event on Saturday hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, he said both sides should “move, ideally, in my view, to a zero-tariff situation, effectively creating a free trade zone between Europe and North America.”

Musk’s brother, Kimbal Musk, joined in, calling the tariffs “a permanent tax on the American consumer.”

Even though Musk spent around $290 million helping Trump return to office, his public criticism of Navarro and the administration’s trade moves reveal a sharp internal divide.

Doubt Over Musk’s Alleged Smarts

While Scaramucci argued Musk is too smart to get caught up in the chaos, many on X weren’t buying it. Whether it’s ego, money, or political miscalculation—the responses suggest the public is running low on patience with both Musk’s antics and those who once propped up Trump’s circle.

At the center of it all is a collapsing Tesla stock, rising tariffs, and a billionaire who once helped bring Trump back to the White House.
