Anthony Scaramucci, the former White House communications director who famously lasted just 10 days on the job, isn’t holding back over the latest group chat scandal involving Trump administration officials.

After The Atlantic published leaked Signal messages showing top officials discussing detailed plans to bomb Yemen, Scaramucci posted a snappy reaction on X: “I got fired for less!”

“They Should Be Fired Immediately”

Scaramucci doubled down in his podcast, The Rest is Politics US, calling out Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and others involved in the Signal chat.

“This is absurd, and these people should be fired immediately,” he said. “Just imagine President Eisenhower in a situation like this. These people would be dispatched immediately. [But] they won’t get fired, and they
can’t get fired because they have passed the Donald Trump loyalty test.”

The outrage centers on a Signal group chat that included high-level Trump officials like Hegseth, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, was accidentally added to the chat and ended up witnessing firsthand as officials shared specific operational details about an upcoming U.S. military strike in Yemen. The messages included drone targets, weapons systems, timing, and even weather conditions—all potentially sensitive military intel.

Trump officials initially downplayed the leak, claiming the messages didn’t contain classified information. Hegseth even said, “Nobody was texting war plans.”

But the newly published messages told a different story.

One message referred to a “target terrorist,” while others discussed confirmation of a kill, and included emojis alongside tactical language. During a House intelligence hearing, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) held up the printed messages and said, “This is classified information… Secretary Hegseth has disclosed military plans as well as classified information. He needs to resign immediately.”

White House in Damage Control Mode

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reiterated that no classified info was shared but admitted they did not want the messages released. “That does not mean we encourage the release of the conversation,” she said.

Elon Musk’s government tech team is now reportedly investigating how Goldberg was added to the chat. Leavitt also claimed Signal is an approved app, though a Pentagon bulletin just last week warned staff against using it due to hacking risks.

Adding to the chaos, some officials may have used personal phones. Trump’s envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, said he didn’t respond to the chat while in Moscow because he only had his secure government phone—implying he typically uses his personal device for these discussions.

Scaramucci Says the Hypocrisy Is Evident

For Scaramucci, the whole thing highlights a blatant double standard.

“As you and I are speaking, The Atlantic is leaking more texts to prove Secretary Hegseth is lying,” he said on the podcast. “They’re lying right to our faces, and Trump is allowing them to triple down on the lie.”

In contrast, Scaramucci was removed in 2017 for profane off-the-record remarks that were later published. “I got fired for less,” he said again on X, echoing the sentiment of many frustrated observers watching the administration attempt to downplay the seriousness of the leak.

As calls for accountability grow louder, Scaramucci may have said what many Americans are already thinking: If sharing war plans on a non-secure app isn’t a fireable offense, what is?

However, according to Scaramucci, there is some “glimmer of hope for the rest of us.” He says, Trump “can’t replace them because nobody wants to take this loyalty test. It’s a very thin group of people that want to be part of this absurd, incompetent force, and that’s good news. That’s good news for the world and that’s good news for America.”
