Even Fox News is now admitting that prices are climbing fast under President Donald Trump’s second term, and its own polling shows that most Americans are blaming him for it.
In a recent segment, Fox News listed several everyday items that have seen notable price hikes: coffee is up almost 20%, utilities have risen 11.7%, electricity is up 5.1%, and vehicle repair costs have jumped 11.5%.
The segment acknowledged, plainly: “Prices are up in the United States.”
These are real, noticeable increases that affect millions of Americans trying to make ends meet.
And while some Republican commentators have previously blamed the economy on the Biden administration, the blame is shifting.
New Poll Finds Majority Blame Trump for Rising Grocery Prices
A Fox News poll found that almost 60% of Americans now believe Trump is responsible for rising grocery prices.
David Pakman, a progressive political commentator, covering the poll on his show, said, “Fox News just got hit with numbers that are like a slap in the face.”
He pointed to a striking shift: “For years, Republicans were just hammering inflation, grocery prices, the cost of eggs. It was like their golden ticket.”
But now that Trump is back in office and prices haven’t dropped, and in many cases have continued to rise, voters are starting to hold him accountable.
According to Pakman, “Trump owns the problem that he campaigned on, and it is his problem now.”
Promises vs. Reality
During his campaign, Trump claimed prices would come down starting on “day one.” He told voters: “We’re going to make America affordable again. Groceries, it’s such a beautiful word. No one’s ever heard it before.”
But almost a year into his return, prices haven’t dropped, they’ve gone up.
Pakman explained why this is hitting voters hard: “They care about what’s happening at the checkout line. Is the cashier giving me a bigger number than I used to pay for this same set of groceries?”
Republican Strategists Reportedly Worried
The poll showing 60% of Americans blaming Trump is especially damaging because it includes not just Democrats and independents but Republicans too.
Pakman noted, “Some are speaking up, saying, ‘Does the tariff policy make sense? Is it worth it?'”
He said Republicans are now in a tough spot: “You can’t blame the previous administration forever. At some point it’s your economy. And I believe that time is now.”
With the 2026 election approaching, Trump’s campaign promises about fixing inflation are coming back to haunt him.
As Pakman summed up:
“When you campaign as the dealmaker who will instantly fix everything, you can’t then pivot to ‘give me time’ or point fingers elsewhere.”
For now, the cost of living continues to rise, and Americans are increasingly clear about who they believe is responsible.
If prices stay high through next year, this could reshape the political landscape. Trump’s economic record may no longer be an asset, but a liability.
Whether Democrats can capitalize on that will depend on how effectively they press the issue, but the polling already shows they may have an opening.
