Jasmine Crockett On Donald Trump: ‘The Fact That No One Is Questioning His Mental Acuity Or Fitness To Serve Is Beyond Wild To Me’

This article is more than 3 months old.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) delivered a straightforward message in yesterday’s MSNBC interview, calling out President Donald Trump and his administration’s record.

From immigration to tariffs, Crockett made it apparent she believes Trump is not only unfit to lead but is causing real harm to everyday Americans.

Crockett, who sits on both the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees, said she feels like many Americans are stuck in an abusive relationship with this administration and the Supreme Court.

“I think all Americans may feel like we’re in an abusive relationship with this administration, as well as with the Supreme Court,” she said. “The Supreme Court struggles to really earn the trust of American citizens.”

She did note a rare bright spot in a recent unanimous Supreme Court ruling on the Salvadoran migrant the admin had wrongly deported. “They are saying, you know what? We all agree,” Crockett said. “And it is very difficult to get them to all agree on anything.”

On Immigration: Propaganda Over Policy

Crockett took issue with the administration’s immigration actions and how they’re being marketed to the public. She argued that people are being misled by right-wing propaganda, including staged photos of DHS officials “cosplaying with guns.”

“They’re telling people, ‘We’re getting rid of the bad people,'” Crockett said. “We don’t have enough stories because they decided they were going to get rid of due process.”

She shared an example of a Dallas resident who was reportedly deported simply for having an autism-related tattoo.

Trump’s Record: “Crazy Work for No Reason”

Crockett blasted Trump’s use of emergency powers and economic policies like tariffs, arguing they hurt Americans across party lines. “We know for a fact if we look back just at his last administration, what it did to the soybean farmers,” she said.

She brought up a striking image of Apple rushing to fly in shipments of iPhones before Trump’s tariffs kicked in. “This is crazy work for no reason,” Crockett said.

But her most pointed criticism came when questioning how Trump’s behavior is being treated by the public and the media.

“The fact that no one is questioning his mental acuity or fitness to serve is beyond wild to me,” she said. “They sat around and called Joe Biden ‘Sleepy Joe,’ but at least you could sleep at night.”

Voter Memory and DEI

In an earlier tweet, Crockett emphasized how bias affects political outcomes.

“This election was the best example of why (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion) matter,” she wrote. “For some, they just disqualified [Kamala Harris] simply due to her race and/or sex.”

She compared the scrutiny faced by one candidate to how another—Trump—was let off the hook for lacking a real plan and lying about Project 2025. “He was and still is UNQUALIFIED and UNFIT to lead OUR country,” she said.

A Call to Remember

Crockett wrapped her MSNBC appearance by urging Americans not to forget the impact of Trump’s first term.

“I just hope that people remember, because seemingly they got amnesia the first time,” she said. “You’ve got opportunities to vote.”

She pointed out that Democrats have been swinging at least 15 points in recent special elections, but added, “Honestly, we should be swinging 30 and 40 points because of the level of incompetence and harm that this administration is bringing upon all of us.”

Crockett’s message was that the stakes are high, and people need to pay attention—especially this time around.
