Fox News host Jessica Tarlov reacted sharply to a recent announcement involving President Donald Trump’s administration and Qatar, saying, “The corruption is so blatant.”
Her comment came after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth praised Trump for achieving “a lasting peace in Gaza” and revealed that Qatar would fund the construction of a new air force facility in Idaho.
During remarks at the Pentagon, Hegseth said, “I’m also proud that today we’re announcing or signing a letter of acceptance to build a Qatari Amiri Air Force facility at the Mountain Home Air Base in Idaho.”
He explained that the location would host Qatari F-15s and pilots to “enhance our combined training, increase lethality, interoperability.”
The facility will be fully funded by Qatar and used to train its pilots on U.S.-made F-15 fighter jets.
Hegseth emphasized that the base will remain under U.S. jurisdiction.
MAGA Backlash
The move sparked immediate backlash from several prominent figures within Trump’s own base.
Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon told Newsweek there “should never be a military base of a foreign power on the sacred soil of America.”
Conservative activist Laura Loomer posted on X, “Never thought I’d see Republicans give terror financing Muslims from Qatar a MILITARY BASE on U.S. soil so they can murder Americans.”
She followed up by accusing the Trump administration of allowing “Qatari influence” to go unchecked.
Political commentator Noah Rothman of The National Review questioned the strategic logic behind the decision, writing on X, “What’s the strategic rationale for this? Either ours or Qatar’s?”
Meanwhile, Republican consultant Mike Madrid mocked the situation, saying, “Joe Biden was criticized for a Chinese balloon flying over our airspace. They’re giving Qatar an entire f’ing air base.”
Broader Context
Hegseth later clarified that the Qatari air force would not have an independent base, stressing that the facility would remain under U.S. control.
The Pentagon redirected all media questions to Hegseth’s statement, and the White House declined to comment.
The controversy also comes amid growing scrutiny over Trump’s relationship with Qatar. Earlier this year, the Trump family company signed a deal to build a luxury golf resort there.
Trump also announced plans to accept a Qatari-funded Boeing jet to replace Air Force One, calling it a “free” gift that would save taxpayers money.
Lawmakers from both parties criticized that move. Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) told TIME at the time, “He’s going to turn Air Force One into Bribe Force One.”
The Gaza Connection
Hegseth tied the Idaho announcement to what he described as progress in Middle East peace efforts.
“No one other than President Trump could have achieved the peace, what we believe will be a lasting peace, in Gaza, and Qatar played a substantial role from the beginning,” he said.
For Tarlov and others, however, the optics of Qatar funding a U.S. military facility while maintaining close business ties to Trump’s circle were enough to raise alarm.
Her reaction, “The corruption is so blatant,” echoed growing skepticism among both Trump supporters and critics about the administration’s ties to wealthy foreign partners.
