President Donald Trump is once again facing backlash over what critics are calling a blatant contradiction in his stance toward Qatar.
In two recently surfaced video clips, Trump first slams U.S. officials for accepting money from the Gulf state, then praises Qatar for donating a $400 million jet to the United States.
The videos, which quickly made the rounds on social media, sparked a wave of criticism, with many calling it a clear example of political hypocrisy.
“These Are People That Kill Women”
In the first clip, Trump harshly criticized past administrations for taking money from Qatar and similar countries.
“These are people that kill women and treat women horribly, and yet you take their money,” he said.
He continued, “Why don’t you give back the money that you’ve taken from certain countries that treat certain groups of people so horribly?”
He argued that accepting gifts from such nations was wrong.
Then Comes the Praise
He later reversed course in the second clip.
“There are those that say we shouldn’t be accepting gifts to the Defense Department, and I would say only a stupid person would say that.”
He also said during the second clip, “They’re giving us a free jet. I could say, no, no, no, don’t give us. I want to pay you $1 billion or $400 million or whatever it is, or I could say, thank you very much.”
He framed the Qatar deal as a generous and beneficial gesture, highlighting the donation of a Boeing 747-8 luxury aircraft—often referred to as a “flying palace”—that would temporarily serve as Air Force One.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “So the fact that the Defense Department is getting a GIFT, FREE OF CHARGE, of a 747 aircraft to replace the 40-year-old Air Force One, temporarily, in a very public and transparent transaction, so bothers the Crooked Democrats that they insist we pay, TOP DOLLAR, for the plane. Anybody can do that!”
Critics Aren’t Buying It
Online reaction was swift and mostly negative. One user wrote, “Watching MAGA twist this into a good thing in real time is amazing.”
Another posted, “The first was a gift to America. The second was a gift to him.”
Others chimed in with similar criticism:
“He can’t be trusted, simple,” wrote one commenter.
“MAGA will say anything to cover this. If it was any other politician doing deals with a country like Qatar, which sponsors terrorism, they’d be outraged,” another said.
“The sycophants is staggering,” one user posted.
One comment summed up the feeling: “Welcome to politics. They’re always lying. Every one of them! It doesn’t matter what side of the aisle they are on. Their views change like the seasons of the year.”
Even some Trump supporters expressed concern. Far-right activist Laura Loomer posted, “I love President Trump. I would take a bullet for him. But, I have to call a spade a spade. We cannot accept a $400 million ‘gift’ from jihadists in suits.”
White House Says It’s Legal
The White House maintains that the deal is entirely legal. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “Any gift given by a foreign government is always accepted in full compliance with all applicable laws.”
According to officials, the jet would first go to the U.S. Air Force for military modifications, then be transferred to the Trump Presidential Library Foundation by Jan. 1, 2029.
Why Now?
Trump’s current Air Force One replacements are delayed and not expected to be ready until 2029. Supporters argue the Qatar jet is a practical stopgap solution. But critics say the issue goes deeper than logistics.
“It didn’t benefit him before. Now it is to his benefit so it’s fine,” one user commented.
In short, Trump’s past condemnation and current acceptance of Qatari money are being seen as self-serving.
The contrast between the two video clips is stark; on one hand, he denounces Qatar’s human rights record and criticizes officials for accepting funds, and on the other, he enthusiastically supports taking a high-value jet from the same government.
The shift in tone has fueled accusations that his response depends more on personal or political convenience than principle.
