Online Buzz
One user suggested, “12. Make Canada the 51st state,” while another added, “Eliminate taxes for under 150k earners, bring down prices, be a peacetime president, uphold the Constitution.”
Others leaned into dark humor, with one adding, “12. Go to prison (unfortunately),” while another joked about Trump visiting Fort Knox to check on the U.S. gold reserves.
But not everyone was on board with the list. Some defended Trump’s record, pointing out that he has, in their view, already achieved some of the items on the list.
“He’s literally building the wall to Mexico,” one commenter shot back. “He never said he would invade Greenland, he said he wanted it.”
The Alcatraz Angle
Charlie Hopkins, one of the last living former Alcatraz inmates, also weighed in on Trump’s recent claim that he wants to reopen the notorious prison.
Hopkins, 93, who served time at the island facility in the 1950s, described the harsh conditions in a recent BBC interview, recalling the isolation and tight security.
“When I left there in 1958, the security was so tight you couldn’t breathe,” he said, reflecting on his time in solitary confinement, or ‘D Block,’ where prisoners were often left in their cells for 23 hours a day.
Hopkins spent six months in solitary after a failed escape plot involving stolen hacksaw blades.
He also highlighted the logistical challenges of reopening the facility.
“Back then, the sewage system went into the ocean,” Hopkins said. “They’d have to come up with another way of handling that.”
Hopkins doubts Trump is serious about the plan, suggesting it’s more of a symbolic gesture about law and order.
“He don’t really want to open that place,” Hopkins said, adding that Trump is likely just making a point about cracking down on crime and illegal immigration.
Hopkins, now living in Florida, wrote a 1,000-page memoir reflecting on his troubled past, including his time at Alcatraz.
“You wouldn’t believe the trouble I caused them when I was there,” he said.
Greenland and Canada in Trump’s Sights
Trump’s recent interview with NBC News’ Kristen Welker added fuel to the viral list.
In the May 4 interview, Trump said he wouldn’t rule out using military force to annex Greenland, a self-governing Danish territory.
“I don’t rule it out,” Trump said. “I don’t say I’m going to do it, but I don’t rule out anything.”
Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in Greenland, citing its strategic location and rich natural resources, including oil, gas, and rare earth metals.
The island also holds geopolitical significance as part of the Greenland-Iceland-United Kingdom gap, a critical maritime region.
However, Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen pushed back in March, saying, “The United States will not get it. We do not belong to anyone else. We decide our own future.”
Trump has also floated the idea of annexing Canada, recently telling NBC that while military force was “highly unlikely,” he still thinks it would be “great” if Canada became the 51st state.
Personal Jabs and Political Shots
While the original list on X focused on grandiose and unlikely plans, some users responded with more practical ideas.
One suggested, “I would add get rid of income tax for salaries of 200k or less,” while another wrote, “Save this list for reference back in a few years.”
Another added, “Alexa, how much of your life is spent worrying about Trump?”
For now, Trump’s musings about reopening Alcatraz remain just that—musings.
And while some parts of the original list, like seizing the Panama Canal or building nightclubs in Gaza, might seem far-fetched, they’ve clearly sparked a wave of debate and reactions from all sides, keeping Trump at the center of the conversation once again.
